HOW TO CARE FOR MY PALM

Palm tree care starts with you choosing the right palm for your yard/property. We can not stress enough how important this is. Think about the appearance of the palm, the purpose and the location in your yard.

How to water your palm: (all depending on weather conditions, if we have a good rainy day your palm will be good for 3 days and longer if we have back to back rainy days)

  • First week that palm is planted water every day either early in the morning or late in the evening.
  • Second week that palm is planted water every other day. Make sure you keep your palm on the same watering schedule.
  • Third week of palm being planted water it 2 to 3 times a week keeping your palm on the same water schedule.
  • After 3 weeks of following this schedule, you can go to watering your palm 2 to 3 times a week, you must use judgement here on whether we have had enough rain or not enough rain to have your palm tree doing its best.

When watering your palm, you need to water from the top of the palm down. Around root ball you want the ground to be moist.  Make sure to water it for 2 to 3 minutes at a time.

*** It is crucial to water palm real early in the morning or real late in the evening! ***

How and when to fertilize palm trees: (palm trees should be fertilized during growing season which starts from end of March and lasts till the end of October.)

  • Newly planted palms should not be fertilized right away.
  • You may use Epsom Salt to fertilize your palm. You want to sprinkle the salt 12 to 18 inches away from the base of the palm.
  • You may use 10-10-10 fertilizer to fertilize your palm (We Carry)
  • You may use Palm Tree Complete Spikes. According to your palm diameter is how far you will place the spike from the root ball of the palm. (We carry the spikes in our office with a instruction sheet to go along with it.)
  • When fertilizing your palms, you want to make sure that you provide them with enough water so that the moisture gets to the fertilized area. Continue watering the palm and fertilized area regularly over the next month. Remember to keep the palm on the same watering schedule.
  • If your palm is potted, you want to break the spikes in half or more placing them around the edge of the pot. Reapply every 3 to 6 months once the old fertilizer spikes have dissolved in the pot.
